Many thermal power plants are located along
Osaka Bay and along the Inland Sea, areas subject to strict environmental regulations.
In order to comply with these strict regulations, the power plants either use
fuel that is low in sulfur and nitrogen, or are equipped with desulfurization
and denitrification units. Those plants without desulfurization and denitrification
units use high-quality fuel that is especially low in sulfur.
Kansai Electric is working to maintain a stable, long-term procurement of high-quality
fuel (with low content of sulfur and nitrogen), in consideration of the environment. |
Fuel
Procurement measures
[ LNG ]
Because of its environment-friendly characteristic, we are aggressively promoting
the utilization of LNG (approximately 60% of all fuel used for thermal power generation).
[ Petroleum ]
About 70% of the petroleum that we use is ultra-low sulfur fuel oil with sulfur
content of less than 0.1%. |
Facilities
measures
We have been successfully decreasing sulfur oxides
at power plant outlets, using a desulfurization system which can reduce the sulfur
content of exhaust gas to around 0.1% even when we use fuel oil with a sulfur
content of 0.6%-1%.
